Environment Canada has reported that the month of February 2015 has been the coldest month ever recorded in 115 years on the Quebec east and southwest regions. Between February 1st and 25th, temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees below average have enveloped the region.
Outside of the city, the scenery is breathtaking. Color aside, the snow drifts strangely resemble desert dunes.
We all know that in winter all is not really dead but dormant, resting and slowly getting ready to gather all the strength to come back in full force with the change of season. I know winter is long, especially in the North East and we often want to hate it. It’s not an easy season to live with. But honestly, how can we hate it when it has so much beauty to offer?
Winter is the king of showmen,
Turning tree stumps into snowmen
And houses into birthday cakes
And spreading sugar over lakes.
Smooth and clean and frosty white,
The world looks good enough to bite.
That’s the season to be young,
Catching snowflakes on your tongue.
Snow is snowy when it’s snowing,
I’m sorry it’s slushy when it’s going.
Only 300 days left! But who’s counting.
I may gain a new appreciation of time through this project, we’ll see.
Like the Temptations’ song says:
“I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside I’ve got the month of May”
I am blessed with many sunshine in my life and my girl, my beloved daughter is definitely one of them.
